State of Oregon v John Hacker
According to court records, on May 7, 2019, John Hacker allegedly stole the phone of right wing journalist Andy Ngo. His trial has been scheduled in front of Judge Dahlin for November 15-17, 2022. Hacker did not deny that he took the phone, but maintains that it was to prevent Ngo from recording him (in violation of the rules of the gym where the incident took place), and willingly gave it up moments after taking it.
After a single day bench trial, the judge found that, while there was wrongdoing done by the defendant, much of it was outside of the scope of charged acts alleged by the state, and he was found not guilty of what he was charged on.
